Plumbing PPC that pays for booked jobs, not just clicks
Google Ads for plumbers works when emergency, drain and water heater searches are treated as different businesses. We structure campaigns by job type, run them alongside Local Services Ads, and judge everything against jobs that actually landed.
Why plumbing Google Ads accounts waste money
The most common plumbing account we see has one campaign, a long list of broad keywords, and every ad pointing at the homepage. It produces calls. It also pays emergency click prices for people researching water heater brands, pays for searches from people looking for plumbing jobs, and gives you no way to tell which type of work the budget is actually buying.
Plumbing is a good fit for paid search because so much of the demand is urgent and phone-driven. That same urgency is why structure matters so much. A searcher with a flooded kitchen wants a phone number and an arrival time. A searcher pricing tankless heaters wants to compare options. One ad and one page cannot serve both well.
How we build a plumbing Google Ads account
This is where the budget either works or leaks.
Campaigns split by job type
Emergency repair, drain and sewer, water heaters, and larger planned work like repiping and leak detection each get their own campaign, so budget can follow the work you most want.
Ad schedules that match answering capacity
Emergency campaigns run after hours only if someone — or something — answers. Paying for 1am clicks that ring to voicemail is the most expensive mistake in plumbing PPC.
Call assets and call-first ads
On mobile, most emergency plumbing buyers want to call rather than fill in a form. Ads are built to make that one tap.
Negative keywords from day one
Plumbing job searches, apprenticeship and salary queries, supply stores, DIY how-to searches and parts lookups excluded before launch, then refined weekly from real search terms.
Geography by drive time
Targeting matched to where your vans can realistically reach in a reasonable time, not a generous radius that sends a tech forty minutes for a small repair.
Landing pages per intent
Emergency traffic lands on a page built around the phone number and response time. Water heater traffic lands on a page with options, financing and proof. See plumber website design.
Local Services Ads and search ads together
Local Services Ads appear above regular search ads and charge per lead. For many residential plumbers they become a major lead source, and they need managing: accurate hours, the right job categories, quick answering, a steady review flow and disputes on leads that are not genuine plumbing work.
We run LSA and search campaigns as one budget. When LSA is producing cheaper booked jobs, budget leans that way. When it is saturated or your ranking inside it drops, search campaigns carry more. Treating them as separate silos usually means overpaying in one of them.
What we track, and why
A click is not a lead and a lead is not a job. Reporting has to follow the chain all the way through.
Calls, recorded
Every call from ads tracked and recorded, so we can hear which searches produce real work and which produce wrong numbers and sales calls.
Forms and bookings
Form fills and online bookings tracked as separate conversions, because they behave differently from calls.
Booked jobs
Leads tied back to jobs in your system wherever possible, so bidding optimises toward work rather than toward cheap enquiries.
Cost per booked job
The number we report against. It is the only one that tells you whether the budget is earning its keep.

Google Ads for plumbers: questions
Straight answers. Anything not covered here, ask on the phone.
01How much should a plumber spend on Google Ads?
Enough to gather useful data, which for most local plumbing companies means at least a few thousand dollars a month across search and LSA. Below that, campaigns struggle to learn and SEO is often the better place to start. The right number depends on your market and how many jobs you can take.
02Should I run Google Ads 24 hours a day?
Only if calls are answered around the clock, by your team, an answering service or automation. Otherwise schedule emergency campaigns to the hours you can respond, and use missed-call text-back to catch anything outside them.
03Are Local Services Ads better than search ads for plumbers?
Neither is better in general. LSA often produces cheaper leads for residential work, while search ads give you more control over which jobs you target and where traffic lands. Most plumbing accounts do best running both.
04Why am I getting calls that are not real jobs?
Usually broad keywords without enough negative keywords, or ads showing for job seekers, DIY searches and supplier lookups. Call recordings make it obvious which searches are causing it.
05How quickly will Google Ads produce calls?
Usually within the first days of launch. A reliable read on cost per booked job takes several weeks, because the campaigns need enough data to prune and rebid honestly.
06Do you take over existing Google Ads accounts?
Yes. Existing conversion history is useful, so we usually restructure in place rather than starting fresh — unless the tracking is so broken that the history is misleading.
