How electrical contractors can get more leads

Most electricians get plenty of small service calls. The leads worth chasing are panel upgrades, EV chargers, generators and rewires. Here are eight ways to get more of them, starting with the ones that cost the least.

1. Give each project its own page

If your website lists "panel upgrades, EV chargers, generators, lighting" in a single line, you are unlikely to rank for any of them. Each of those is a distinct search made by a different buyer at a different moment.

A dedicated page for each project — what triggers it, what the process involves, what affects the cost, whether a permit is needed — gives Google something specific to rank and gives a buyer a reason to call you rather than the next result. We cover the structure on our electrician website design page.

2. Answer the questions buyers ask before they hire

A lot of electrical work starts with research. Can my panel handle an EV charger? Do I need a permit for this? What size generator would run my house? People search these questions long before they contact an electrician.

  • Whether a panel upgrade is needed for an EV charger or heat pump
  • When electrical work needs a permit and an inspection
  • How standby generators are sized and fuelled
  • Why insurers and inspectors flag certain older panels and wiring
  • What a whole-home rewire actually involves

Honest, specific answers to these bring buyers to you early in the decision. That content is a core part of our electrician SEO work.

3. Fix your Google Business Profile

For hire-now searches, the businesses shown with the map take most of the attention. Set your primary category to Electrician, list every service you want more of, keep hours accurate, and upload photos of real, finished work regularly.

Clean, well-organised panel work in a photo is one of the most convincing things an electrician can show. Ask for a review after every job, and reply to all of them.

4. Reply fast, and ask for photos

Project buyers usually contact more than one electrician. The first to give a useful answer has a real advantage — which is why we treat speed to lead as part of lead generation.

A good first reply also moves the job forward. For an EV charger, ask for a photo of the panel and the planned charger location. For a panel upgrade, ask for photos of the panel and meter. You can often give a reliable range without a site visit, and serious buyers appreciate the speed.

5. Build relationships with other trades

Electrical work is often part of someone else's project. General contractors and remodelers need electricians for kitchens, additions and basements. HVAC companies installing heat pumps regularly find panels that need upgrading. Solar installers need electrical work done properly.

A few dependable relationships with these trades can produce steady project work that never goes through search at all. Be the electrician who shows up when promised and keeps their customers happy, and they will keep sending work.

6. Get in front of the triggers

Many electrical jobs are triggered by a moment you can predict: buying an electric vehicle, selling or buying an older home, failing an inspection, or adding a major appliance.

Realtors and home inspectors regularly find electrical problems during sales. Local EV dealers have customers who need a charger installed. Being the electrician those people recommend puts you in front of buyers at the exact moment a need appears.

7. Be ready before the next outage

Standby generator demand rises sharply after major outages and severe weather. The electricians who capture it are the ones already visible when it happens — with a generator page explaining sizing, fuel and financing, and a paid campaign ready to switch on.

Building those after the outage is usually too late. We keep generator campaigns built and approved for clients in outage-prone areas, so spend can increase the moment demand does. More on that in Google Ads for electricians.

8. Follow up estimates and past customers

Large electrical quotes are often given and then left. The buyer got other quotes, was waiting on a utility or permit step, or simply got busy. A short follow-up sequence on every open estimate recovers work that was already close to a yes.

Past customers are just as valuable. A household that had its panel upgraded may want a charger, a generator or new lighting next. A simple check-in brings that work back to you. Our CRM and lead follow-up service sets this up.

Where to start

If you only do three things: build pages for the projects you want more of, reply fast with a request for photos, and follow up every open estimate. Those recover the most value before you spend more on traffic.

Once they are in place, additional traffic from search and ads converts far better. That is the approach behind our electrical lead generation work.
